He is now a few months older than five.
Mark and I attended his "goodbye circle" in which his friends and teachers wished him farewell in a simple, yet very touching ceremony.
After his goodbye circle, his teacher showed us some of his recent work (including reading and skip counting). We then enjoyed the last day of school yogurt (mind you, not ice cream here!) social, followed by splash day on the playground. Parents left, and the kids had a pizza party, and then the "non napping friends" went home, while the "nappers" (which in the EC classroom is only about 5 kids) stayed on for a short rest, before getting a chance to return to their "work." Benjamin chose his beloved blocks today.
In two weeks, Benjamin will begin kindergarten at our neighborhood public school. We get to walk him into his classroom the first day, but after that, our big boy gets curb side drop-off and pick-up.
Benjamin is ready to move on and take on the challenges that are ahead of him, I am confident of that. But I will miss the intimacy of the little pre-school that has been part of his daily routine for the past 3.5 years. I hope and trust that his new teacher will recognize what a beautiful child he is, and will continue to foster his sense of self.
But today, I am a bit tearful for the ending of this phase of our life.
Thank you, St Andrews, for all that you have provided for Benjamin. We will miss you.
